What drives the cost in Perth
Base slab condition
Resurfacing only works when the existing slab is structurally sound — solid, thicker than 75mm, and free of active movement. If the slab has settled, has active cracks wider than 3mm, or was poured over inadequate base, the overlay will crack in the same pattern within 12 months. Get an honest assessment before paying to overlay a failing slab.
Overlay type
Spray-on cement overlays are the cheapest and look best in patterned finishes. Trowel-applied polymer-modified overlays are more durable and thicker (5–15mm). Full liquid limestone overlays give the most premium result but need thicker application (15–20mm) and a longer cure. Match the overlay type to the required finish, not the cheapest option.
Crack repair depth

Walk the slab. Clean and prep
High-pressure wash the whole slab to remove dirt, oil, moss and loose material. Degrease with a citrus or alkaline cleaner. Grind or shot-blast the surface to create a mechanical key for the overlay — usually to ICRI CSP 3–4 profile.

Perth-specific considerations
- Perth's older 1980s–1990s driveways are the sweet spot for resurfacing — the slabs were typically poured 100mm+ thick with mesh, but the surface finish is tired and the sealer never got maintained. Overlay transforms them for a fraction of new-pour cost.
